Big Chip Awards 2009

Hello, good evening and welcome.

This is, as you may have guessed, is the blog for the Big ChipAwards in 2009. Clearly as a digital type organisation, it is something that we should do. Engaging online media that is. Perhaps I should explain who “we” is. In this case the “we” is Manchester Digital. By the people for the people. Manchester Digital is run by the digital industry in Manchester and the North West to benefit our sector in Manchester and the North West. We reach out and ignore traditional local rivalries. To illustrate the reach of the Big Chip Awards, have a look at last years winners. As you can see, the reach is pretty far outside Manchester.

This blog is a work in progress and will remain so throughout its’ lifespan. the idea behind it is to enable conversation about the Big Chip Awards via a range of channels. You will notice the usual social media suspects. The Twitter channel will pull in anything with a hashtag of #bigchip11 . The Flickr channel will pull in photos tagged with bigchipawards. The various maps will show who is engaged with the Big Chip awards in the past and right now.

Our plans for the night are to run an opt in Google Latitude maps so you can stalk your peer group while they drink. That is if Latitude is working in the UK by then. We’re also using Qik to feed live video into the site.

This can only work if the community takes an interest. Why should you? Well, by raising the profile of North West digital industries, we bring business into the region. So make a commitment and start a discussion about Big Chip. Atthe other end of the scale of commitment, maybe you want to add something of value to this site. Let us know if you can help.
