What has the Big Chips ever done for me?

Well Son, ask not what the Big Chips can do for you, ask what you can do for the “Big Chips” And so on. But seriously folks, the Big Chip Awards is by the sector for the sector. Manchester is run with a huge amount of voluntary effort by the digital sector in the North West. The reach of the organisation is the entirety of the North West. We make a diference to the digital sector and through that to the economy of the North West.

Enough of the altruistic gubbins. Going to the Big Chip awards has helped me secure contracts of pretty damn significant value because I got to meet people and have a beer with them when everyone was having a great time. Each time I have been to the awards, I’ve not made it home till past dawn the next day.

What’s not to love?

Why would you go to the Big Chip Awards?

Really looking forward to the Big Chip Awards this year.

The awards aren’t just about hoping you’ll win, it’s the priceless networking opportunities it presents.

With so many of the top people in our industry there and an opportunity to make some great contacts, I’d be going even if we weren’t nominated for an award.

One conversation with the right person could lead to much more business than the ticket cost!

And with Bill Bailey doing a short set, it will definitely be a night to remember – OK – try to remember.

For me the Big Chips sum up the glorious contradiction of the most visionary, future-aware, technologically-gifted human beings in the region dressing up like Victorian ladies and gentlemen, in the outdated and archaic garb categorised as ‘black tie.’

Which either goes to show that techies have no taste (surely not) or that the Big Chippers have yet to find that just-so Blake’s Seven or Star Trek-style costume more akin to our chosen sectors of employment.

Next year, anyone?

I think it’s fair to say that the Big Chips has provided me with some of the biggest hangovers I’ve ever suffered in my life.

Apart from an excuse to go out on a school night? It will be our first time attending but since a collaboration project of ours is nominated it will be fun. A bit like betting on a race but not being able to stamp your feet when your horse comes in ‘not first’.

Although i’m not being pessimistic, i’m just not that competitive (he says until he bathes in the glory of success)
